The fun works of Cimarosa is represented from 18 to 21 march

The Tenerife Auditorium, cultural space which depends on the area of Culture of the city Council directed the counselor Enrique Arriaga, goes on sale tomorrow [miércoles 17] tickets for Il matrimonio segreto, the new title of Ópera de Tenerife. This opera buffa (comic opera by Domenico Cimarosa will take the stage of the Symphony Hall of the 18th to the 21st of march with the singers of the eighth edition of Opera (e)Studio as protagonists.

Il matrimonio segreto is a co-production led by Opera de Tenerife with the Teatro Regio di Parma and Teatro Massimo di Palermo. The musical direction of this artistic proposal is made by Davide Levi, to the front of the Symphonic orchestra of Tenerife, while the stage direction is assumed by Roberto Catalano. The rest of the team is completed with the set designer Emanuele Sinisi, costume designer Ilaria Ariemme and lighting designer Fiammetta Baldiserri.

This is a dramma giocoso in two acts, with music by composer Domenico Cimarosa and Italian libretto by Giovanni Bertati, based on the play The Clandestine Marriage by George Colman the Elder and David Garrick. The first performance took place on 7 February 1792 at the Hofburgtheater in Vienna in the presence of the emperor Leopold II, who liked it so much, that after giving dinner to the whole company, he asked for an encore full of the same.

It is one of the more interesting pieces and best-known Cimarosa, clear example of opera buffa (comic opera of the EIGHTEENTH century, contains a plot full of impossible situations, costumes and happy ending, where a wealthy merchant willing to ascend socially intends to marry his two daughters with men of the aristocracy. What you do not know the merchant is that one of his daughters has married in secret with one of his employees. All of the impending conflict is garnished with a music particularly original, that stylistically sits between Mozart, Rossini and Donizetti. The stage director and his team framed the entire plot in the New York of the 50s.

The cast of singers are the twelve participants in the current edition of Opera (e)Studio, academy of the integral improvement of artists led by Giulio Zappa. The young people have been chosen among the 195 applicants from 36 nationalities and they have had three weeks on the island of intensive training in singing and interpretation. The singers, who are between 22 and 31 years, will be the two casts, composed of six roles, each of Il matrimonio segreto.

Thus, the Lithuanian Ignas Melnikas and the Italian Francesco Leone, low both, construed, to Geronimo, the sopranos Italian Eleonara Note and Marilena Path will be in the role of Elisetta; the Italian Giulia Mazzola and the German Veronika Seghers, the two sopranos, will be Carolina; Fidalma will be the Italian Mara Gaudenzi and the French-Claire Gascoin, mezzosopranos; the Spanish Jan Antem and the chilean Ramiro Maturana have been chosen for the role of Conte Robinson, baritone, while the Turkish-Bekir Serbest, and the Italian Antonio Mandrillo, both tenors, will assume the role of Pauline.

This program for young artists aims to provide a training of high specialization in the picture lyric international, serving showcase and springboard for many of them. Opera (e)Studio also drawn attention to the work of production technique of Tenerife Auditorium, obtained throughout 2019 and 2020, in recognition of the Creative Europe programme of the European Commission, reflecting the development, sustainability, job creation and training.
