Alejandro Krawietz highlights that this edition of Opera (e)Studio has been a record of participation
The Cabildo of Tenerife presents the opera Il matrimonio segreto by Domenico Cimarosa, which will be performed at the Symphony Hall of the Auditorio de Tenerife, from 18 to 21 march, a co-production with the Teatro Reggio di Parma and the Teatro Massimo di Palermo, scenarios that will play host to this production in the season 2021/22. Setting the scene -that develops in a bakery of New York of the 50s – will be in charge of the twelve singers that make up the eighth promotion of the project Opera (e)Studio, an academy comprehensive learning that organizes Ópera de Tenerife.
The details of this production were announced today [jueves 11] by the director of the island of Culture of the Cabildo, Alejandro Krawietz; the artistic director of Opera (e)Studio, Giulio Zappa; and the stage directors and music, Roberto Catalano, and Davide Levi, in an act of information that were also present twelve singers that will star the four functions.
The director of the island highlighted “the comprehensive nature in the field opera that leads to this program”, which he described as a highlight within the season of the Opera de Tenerife. Krawietz explained the difficulties that have surrounded this issue with the pandemic and noted that “during his stay on the Island, the twelve singers undergo a process of learning that leads to a pace professional, very intense.” The representative of the Cabildo de Tenerife, reported that “these singers were selected through an international call for applications to which they pointed 195 applicants, a record figure in all the editions that have been held”.
Giulio Zappa highlighted the importance of a project in which they have participated, almost a hundred singers in the eight years. He thanked the involvement of the entire team to take forward this work and want that “singers remember always this stage in Tenerife, despite the fact that this year has been a bit peculiar by the circumstance sanitary,” and hoped that the experience of a “fun and important to their life and career”.
The director of Il matrimonio segreto, Roberto Catalano, said they felt “very happy to be here at this historic moment as peculiar; this is a team effort and I thank you all for making me feel at home.” The musical director Davide Levi stressed that “the Symphonic orchestra of Tenerife is doing a wonderful job” and also appreciated that it is “incredible” to be able to offer a concert with the public in the current circumstances, so that “I am very fortunate to be a part of this project.”
The Catalan singer Jan Antem spoke on behalf of their peers. “It is a challenge to perform this opera because it has a style that’s very peculiar,” said the baritone Spanish, who added that “the experience in Tenerife has been very pleasant,” and it also recognizes that to fulfill a dream to represent this same title in Italy, “in two theaters of a lot of tradition”, as are the cases of Teatro Reggio di Parma and Teatro Massimo di Palermo.

Interpretations shall be borne by the young artists Giulia Mazzola (Italy), Veronika Seghers (Germany), Eleonora Note (Italy), Marilena Path (Italy), Mara Gaudenzi (Italy), Claire Gascoin (France), Bekir Serbest (Turkey), Antonio Mandrillo (Italy), Ignas Melnikas (Lithuania), Francesco Leone (Italy), Jan Antem (Spain) and Ramiro Maturana (Chile). In addition to Roberto Catalano, and Davide Levi, the staff make it up as responsible for the scenography Emanuele Sinisi, the costume has been created by Ilaria Ariemme and the lighting director is Fiammetta Baldiserri.
Opera (e)Studio is the project of Ópera de Tenerife, which has the objective of training a few singers after a process of refinement and artistic integral that began last month of January. This initiative is distinguished by its versatility as artists work many aspects, from the various techniques of musical interpretation and scenic; the style, diction, body language, or drama, which are interleaved with sessions at the pace the professional marking a theatre: evidence of costumes, make-up and rehearsal with the orchestra.
